In order to donate blood you need to be a
volunteer who is 17 years of age or older who is in general good health, weighs
at least 110 pounds, and has a photo ID. There
is no upper age limit. You do not
need to know your blood type to donate, but once you donate you will be sent a
card showing what it is. Be sure to try to eat a substantial meal before
donating and drink plenty of fluids!

Monday, August 2
- Benefit Dinner- 11 am-3 pm. $8 a plate
for spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, and dessert. Free delivery of 5
or more plates or plates may be picked up at Mom and Dad's Restaurant.
Please call 850-333-1977 to place your order. Proceeds will benefit DFS
resident Rebecca Jenkins with medical bills.
- Health Programs Information Fair- Northwest
Florida State College Niceville Campus. 5:30-8 pm. For
those interested in learning more about admissions to the NWF State College
associate degree (RN) and bachelor’s degree (RN to BSN) programs in
Nursing as well as programs in Dental Assisting, Paramedic, EMT,
Radiography, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Coding/Billing and Health
Services Management. At the session,
potential students will learn about the various health career training
options available at NWF State College and how to prepare a more competitive admission
application.
Tuesday, August 3
- Deadline to Complete an Application- First
United Methodist Church of DFS. Families needing help with Back to School
items can pick up applications at the First United Methodist Church
Monday-Friday from 8 am-noon and 1 pm-3 pm. The deadline to receive
applications is noon on Tuesday, August 3rd. These supplies are free, but
you must complete an application to receive them. Families can pick up the
school supplies on Friday, August 6th from 3 pm until 6:30 pm or on
Saturday, August 7th from 9 am-noon in the fellowship hall of the church.

outreach of the United Methodist Women.
- National Night Out- Freeport Sports
Complex at Hammock Bay. 6 pm-10 pm. Sponsored by the Walton County Sheriff's
Office. Pack the Patrol Car-Bring a school supply item and support the Boys
and Girls Club Teen Center. Some of the attractions: US Marine Corp. Chin Up
Competition, US Army Rock Climbing Wall, WCSO Specialty Units, and McGruff

- First Friday Breakfast- 7 am-9 am. 20th
Space Control Squadron at Site C-6. The program is strength and stability
through Economic Development. The speakers include Chip Jerris and Buddy

- BBQ Fundraiser- Thriftway Supermarket.
10 am-until. A benefit for Craig Morgan-a young father recently diagnosed
with Lymphoma. BBQ Pork plates for $7 including pork, baked beans, potato
salad, bread, and pound cake. Boston Butts will also be on sale for $22.

- MSE School Visitation Day- Maude
Saunders Elementary. Grades 1-5 from 1 pm-3 pm. Pre-K and Kindergarten
orientation is from 10 am-11 am. During orientation, important information
will be given regarding your child's first year of school. Please make plans
to attend. August 12th is the first day of school for students.
- WHS New Student Orientation- Walton
High School. 9th Grade and new student orientation at 9 am.
- DFS Facility Planning Workshop- Chautauqua
Building in DFS. 5:30 pm. An update on the progress of facility planning.
August 13-15th
- Back to School Sales Tax Holiday- Books,
clothing, wallets and bags costing less than $50 and school supplies priced
at less than $10 will be tax-free in Florida.
