MULTI-DATED MAY CALENDAR ITEMS

  • Walton County Seeking to Form Dog Bite Awareness Committee - Dog bites, rabies, viscous and aggressive dogs. Do animals in the community concern you? The Walton County Health Department recently issued a call to make sure your dogs, cats and ferrets are vaccinated against rabies. The Health Department also works dog bite cases, usually working with the Walton Animal Control. The Health Department is putting together a community group to address ways to reduce the number of dog bite cases in our area.  If you are interested in serving on a committee addressing education and prevention of dog bites, contact Ewa Bearden at the Walton County Health Department, 892-8015.
  • 4th of July Parade - Every church in Walton County is asked to participate in the parade.  There is no entry fee for the parade and prizes will be awarded to the winning entry.  This is a great way to show pride in your church and build camaraderie among your parishioners.  Some of the children’s activities are being sponsored by candidates running for political office.  Last year we had a dunking booth, slip-n-slide, watermelon slices, popcorn, face painting, ice cream, dragon jumping room, bean bag toss, snow cones, musical chairs, ID cards/fingerprinting, a petting zoo and more.  We are asking the area churches to sponsor these (or other fun events) this year.  Your church will have lots of fun putting on these activities and will be blessed with the smiles of hundreds of local children enjoying this glorious holiday.  Please give Sara Comander a call at 892-8530 or 830-1661 to let us know if your church wants to participate and what activity you will be sponsoring. 
  • Fundraiser, Illuminating Autism - Ticket sales end, May 30th.  Buy your tickets at Genesis Automotive, tickets/$100 each, tax deductible, Contact Heather Marshall 585-9189.  All proceeds go to Brilliant Minds Medical and Behavioral Solutions, Inc of Destin.
  • Camp Brave Heart - July 25-28.  Emerald Coast Hospice is offering a camp for children this summer.  Camp Brave Heart is designed for children age 7-14 who have experienced the loss of a loved one.  Regardless of the type of loss or the reason for the loss, all children are invited to apply to attend Camp Brave Heart.  In addition to therapeutic groups and activities, the children will participate in indoor and outdoor activities such as arts and crafts, boating, tubing, swimming, canoeing and field games.  The camp is held at Camp Timpoochee in Niceville, July 25-28.  Transportation is provided.  For information and an application: Frank Dole, chaplain, 689-0300.

  • “Fore Women” Golf Tournament - Shotgun start at noon.  Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club.  The all ladies tournament will also include an exclusive Brunch, Golf Clinic, and Award’s Reception, immediately following.  The proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Athena International Award program for the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast .   • Discount Rabies Clinic - 1:00-4:00pm.  Aidmore Pet Clinic.  Rabies shots are $7/animal.  Volunteers needed to help manage pets.  Pets must be 12 weeks of age or older.  All doge must be on a leash or in a carrier.  Cats must be in a carrier.  If you do not own a carrier, a pillowcase will do.

  • Meeting, New Home / Alice Creek - 10:00am.  126 S. Eleventh St., DeFuniak Springs.  In 1942, were you, your parents, grandparents, ancestors homesteaded in the area known today as Eglin Air Force Base Reservation?  The "Project Group" is seeking to contact all descendants.  Their story has NEVER been told, explaining the hardships the relocated families endured.   They want your story to be included in a future publication about these families.  Help to remember our ancestral history. They Have monthly meetings to discuss this with other survivors.  If you are a survivor or descendant, or know of anyone who is, please contact (850)951-8947, (850)897-2145, or (850)548-5353.
