An Alford man is arrested after he strikes a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy with a knife. A deputy responded to the 2600 Block of Vancouver Drive in Alford on Wednesday in response to a suspicious person who was possibly wanted. The suspect, William Howard of Alford, went onto the roof of the home when the deputy arrived. As more deputies arrived on the scene they tried to talk Howard down from the roof. That’s when Howard pulled out a knife and deputies went onto the roof and tazed him. Howard was able to get free and fell off the roof. He then swung a knife at a deputy on the ground, striking the deputy in the face. The strike caused a superficial wound and Howard continued to fight deputies, biting another in the arm. Another deputy dislocated their thumb before Howard was handcuffed and arrested. Several deputies were treated at the hospital for injuries, they have all been released. Howard was also taken to the hospital for his injuries before he was taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility. He is charged with aggravated battery, battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting a law enforcement officer among other charges.
