CROWDS GATHER FOR FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Hundreds of people packed local comic book stores on Saturday to take advantage of Free Comic Book Day. The crowd that turned out at TBS Comics on North 9th Avenue in Pensacola were greeted by some well-known “Star Wars” characters. They then lined up for a chance to choose up to three brand new comic books – all free of charge! The store manager said it’s all part of a national yearly campaign to promote reading and, of course, comics. “A lot of comics are for adults, but there are a whole lot for kids as well. So, they try to put out a large spectrum of comics out to try to appeal to different readers and different groups of people. Today is May the 4th, and it’s kind of become an unofficial ‘Star Wars’ holiday. May the 4th be with you. So, there are ‘Star Wars’ events going on all over Pensacola,” explained manager Shana Reese. Free Comic Book Day started 17 years ago
