A volunteer firefighter received minor injuries when the Pittman Volunteer Fire Department fire truck he was driving to a mobile home fire in Westville flipped over on its side just before 6 p.m. Saturday.
Gritney Volunteer Fire Chief Stephen Jones was in his personal vehicle behind the fire truck when the accident occurred.
“He was turning a curve here at Gritney (Road), and he went to hit the brakes and it wouldn’t slow down,” said Jones.
The driver attempted to make a turn while on Bonifay Gritney Road near County Road 179 when the truck overturned. The truck was carrying about 3,000 pounds of water which ended up spilled all over the road.
Faulty brakes are believed to be the cause of the accident at this time.
The driver, who was the only firefighter in the vehicle, reported leg pain when he was removed from the truck by rescue personnel and was transported to Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay for treatment.
