HCSO Investigating String of Vehicle Burglaries

Holmes County law enforcement is investigating auto burglaries. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Bonifay Police Department, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a string of vehicle burglaries.

On the morning of March 23, The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen reporting his truck had been stolen sometime during the early morning hours. The citizen also discovered an abandoned vehicle in his yard. It was then discovered the abandoned car had been stolen from a residence in Washington County earlier that morning.

Throughout the morning the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office received reports of vehicle burglaries along Highway 79. Purses, phones, credit cards and money were among the items taken from the vehicles. Investigators located surveillance video from a convenience store in Bonifay during the time frame where a credit card taken in a vehicle burglary from Bay County was used

Okaloosa Car Burglary

Two Fort Walton Beach teenagers are charged with car theft after they were found sitting in the stolen vehicle at a vacant lot Tuesday evening. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a call of a suspicious car around 9 p.m. found 18-year old Antonio Prather of 117 Bradford Street and 15-year-old Jadden Edwards of Union Street inside a white Mercedes backed into a vacant lot on Weeks Road. Two juvenile passengers were in the back seat.

Deputies say when they approached the car; Edwards had a pink mini taser in his lap in plain view. While searching Edwards, deputies found a single grey car key in his front pocket and another key with an orange tag in his left pocket. Additional keys were also found in the front glove box and console. A check of the car revealed it had been reported stolen out of Niceville.

Prather is charged with vehicle theft and providing false information while detained. Edwards is charged with vehicle theft and open carry of a weapon. The juvenile passengers were released to their parents. The investigation is continuing.
