Holmes County Sheriff Office Arrests Burglary Ring Suspects

Citizens and Deputies working together help break up a multi county burglary ring. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, along with help from citizens, were able to break up a burglary ring that covers, Holmes, Walton, Washington and Jackson Counties.

On Veteran’s Day, the Holmes Sheriff’s Office received information from a burglary victim in westville, which identified the suspects. Holmes Sheriff’s Investigators, along with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, traveled to a residence in Walton where stolen items were recovered from burglaries in Holmes, Walton and Washington Counties. There have been two arrests with more expected.

Justin Tankersley and Holly Bray, both of Walton County, were arrested and charged with Burglary, Grand Theft and Dealing in Stolen Property. They are also facing charges in Walton and Washington Counties.

Holmes Sheriff Tim Brown gives thanks to the citizens for the information provided in the case.

In a separate incident, Holmes Investigators have arrested Anthony Leavins, of Caryville, and charged him with Armed Burglary of a Structure, Dealing in Stolen Property and Grant Theft. The charges stem from a burglary that occurred in the Gritney area. Warrants on the same charges have also been obtained for Jennifer Stout, of Graceville..

Holmes County Fatality

An accident on State Road SR 2 just West of Beaver Dam Rd in Holmes County ended with a pedestrian dead. The FHP says a 2010 Nissan Rogue, driven by 40-year-old Heather Renee Clark-Sellers of Bonifay was eastbound on SR 2. A pedestrian was on the north shoulder of entered the roadway into the path of the car. The front of the car struck the pedestrian. The man came to rest in the eastbound lane east of the car. The FHP lists 67-year-old Michael John Fithian of Bonifay as the fatality. The accident is still under investigation. Alcohol is not a factor for the driver, but is being checked for the pedestrian.

FDOT Notices

The FDOT says drivers will encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures on State Road 20 between the Okaloosa county line and County Road 83A in Walton County from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 through Friday, Nov. 21 as crews perform drainage work. Flagmen will be on-site to safely direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists are reminded to use caution and obey the posted speed limit when traveling through an active work zone.

And crews will perform traffic signal maintenance at State Road 83 (U.S. 331) and State Road 20.  Drivers will encounter nightly intermittent lane closures from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the maintenance operation. Motorists are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through the work zone.
