LOTTERY THIEF LOSES, BIG TIME
A Slocomb, Alabama man is behind bars after he tried to cash a stolen Florida lottery ticket.
Police say 41-year-old Richard D. Morgan was arrested when he showed up at the Big Daddy Liquor Store in Esto to cash a ticket that had been stolen in an earlier burglary. On Tuesday, police responded to a burglary at the same business around 1 AM and found the front door broken and a lottery ticket dispenser missing.
At 9:30 later that morning, an employee called police to report someone trying to cash one of the stolen tickets that had already been invalidated by the Florida Lottery Commission. Officers already had enough evidence to tie Morgan to the burglary.
Officers confronted Morgan, placed him under arrest and he confessed to the crime. Officers recovered the remaining tickets from a home in Slocomb, AL.
Morgan did not collect $100 and went to jail. He was charged with burglary, dealing in stolen property, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
