40 years in prison and lifetime monitoring as a sexual predator. Joseph Maurice Cruz has been sentenced to 40 years state prison on 2 counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation. Cruz was designated a Sexual Predator and will be on life probation with GPS monitor upon completion of the prison sentence.
Cruz was arrested in November of 2013 after an investigation revealed that the Defendant had engaged in sexual acts with the Victim who was between 6-10 years old at the time and the Defendant was between the ages of 15-20 at the time of the offenses. The Victim did not report the allegations for several years.
Cruz pled to the charges and was sentenced on January 5, 2014. Circuit Judge Michael Flowers imposed the sentence. The case was investigated by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. Assistant State Attorney Christine Bosau was responsible for the prosecution.
