NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK BEGINS IN OCTOBER
South Walton Fire District’s Fire Board Chair, Maurice Gilbert affirmed Fire Prevention Week October 4th-10th, 2015 by reading a proclamation at their regularly scheduled meeting earlier this week. The proclamation reiterates the importance of working smoke alarms and encourages everyone to practice “fire safety”.
In attendance was Brad Thompson, a South Walton condominium HOA President, who showed up to support and describe the importance of smoke alarms as well. Brad experienced a fire in the main electrical room of his building in May and attributes the lives saved as well as the millions of dollars in property saved to early detection/warning and a quick response from South Walton Fire District.
The National Fire Prevention Association announced “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm” as the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign. If you’d like to find out more about smoke alarms or about SWFD’s free smoke alarm program, please contact Sammy Sanchez, Fire Marshal -850-267-1298 or firstname.lastname@example.org
