RICHARD “TOMMY’ THOMAS MCCALL 1937-2019

Mr. Richard ‘Tommy’ Thomas  McCall, age 81, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019. He was born in  DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Burton McCall, Sr. and Grace Murray McCall.

 Mr. McCall was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He graduated from Walton High School in 1954.  Afterwards he attended Auburn University and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Tommy attended Troy State University earning his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.  He played baseball on scholarship at Troy State, where he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  He taught school and coached in Monticello, Florida. Tommy relocated back to DeFuniak Springs, where he  owned and operated a network of stores across Northwest Florida in the Lumber and Supply industry.  He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Burt McCall, Jr. and his sister, Bette McCall Smith.

Mr. McCall is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Y. McCall of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; two sons, Thomas McCall (Ashley) of Tallahassee, Florida and Chad McCall of Washington DC; one daughter, Jama McCall ( Joann) of Pensacola, Florida; two brothers, Bob McCall of Freeport, Florida and Joe McCall ( Earlene) of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; one sister, Nancy McCall Caswell of Tallahassee, Florida, and  three grandchildren, Kaya McCall, Cathryn McCall and Paige McCall. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:00~2:00 PM, Monday, March 25, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church; 88 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 25, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, with Jason Burgess and Reverend Francis Turner officiating.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Ben Bodie, Kevin Dover, Robert Wicker, Austin Shoaf, Mike Cozzie and Ben Kingsley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bodie, Landrum Cawthon, Danny Taylor, Buddy Supple, Shane Supple, and Truett Senterfitt, Jr.

Donations may be made in memory of Tommy McCall to Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 14010 Roosevelt Boulevard, # 709, Clearwater, Florida 33762, or flowers are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
