A local DeFuniak Springs family helped bring a rodeo to Walton County for the first time, while also benefiting the Walton County Special Olympics. Cowboys from the Panhandle and even from Texas came to Walton County to compete in bull riding and other rodeo games. There was a range from amateur cowboys to professionals that competed for a cash prize. Before the rodeo, children with special needs were invited to hang out with the cowboys, learn how to rope, ride ponies and horses, and learn all about what the cowboys do. Karly Leach and her family hosted the event. Leach said a lot of people were willing to help. While there are rodeos once a year in Pensacola and Panama City, Leach and her brother hope to make this particular rodeo an annual event.
